Are you currently in a reading slump? It’s okay to admit if you are, it happens to all of us.
Take me for example, I’m currently in a reading slump because of how busy my semester has gotten. I was doing pretty well with keeping up on my reading and was actively reading so many new and exciting books during my winter break and start of my spring semester. However, I am now currently in the middle of reading “Wicked,” and I haven’t picked up the book since the middle of February. I don’t even know why I am unable to finish the book right now because I’ve already read a few times before and have enjoyed it each time. I like to think it’s because of all of the other reading I have to do for classes that I take at college.
A reading slump is a very normal thing for a person to go through every once in a while. They can sometimes last for a few weeks to maybe even a year or longer. It honestly just depends on if you have the time to read, and if there’s anything exciting that you want to read.
So if you couldn’t already tell where I was going with this, here are some ways for you to get out of your reading slump!
- 1. Try rereading one of your favorite books
I always love to reread “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” or “Daisy Jones and The Six.”
2. Try switching genres
I know I know this a romance book site, and I really technically shouldn’t be wanting you to read another genre. This does help sometimes. As much as I love reading romance it does get a little stale sometimes. I recently started to read some psychological thrillers, like “The Housemaid” series by Fredia McFadden. It was such a good read and it is definitely a recommendation from me for you all to read.
3. Read shorter books
I normally try to not read this authors books as often, but Colleen Hoover is a great example of a short book. Her books are hardly ever over 350 pages and the plot for all of her books is very fast to get through.
4. Ask friends for recommendations
I thankfully have a lot of other friends that also like to read so we always give each other recommendations. So I would try turning to them if you want something new to try. If you happen to not have many friends that like to read, then you can always turn to social media as well. TikTok especially has so many different creators that give out many different recommendations.
5. Try audiobooks
I have never tried an audio book, but I do know a lot of people who have and they seem to enjoy it more than actually reading. You can listen to audio books when you’re driving in your car, doing chores, or while you’re doing work. You also can go through the audio version of a book faster than reading because you can being any type of task for a long amount of time and your audio book can just be playing the background. Plus you don’t have to try and make as much time for an audio book like how you have to for if you’re reading from an actual book.
These are just a few starter options for you all to try. If you happen to have any other advice on how to get out of a reading slump, feel free to put it in the comments! I hope you get out of your reading slump and get to read a new and exciting book very soon.
