Book Review: Layla by Colleen Hoover

Welcome to my first book review!

For my first book review I decided to review the book “Layla” by Colleen Hoover. Normally, I don’t really like to read books by Colleen Hoover, but even I can admit that her books are fast reads.

Synopsis: We have our main characters Leeds and Layla. During the first half of the book they both think they’ll be spending the rest of their lives together. That is until the couple have an unexpected attack, which left Layla fighting for her life. After Layla spent weeks in the hospital, she has recovered somewhat physically, but there is still a lot of emotional and mental healing that she has to do. This changed the woman who Leeds originally fell in love with. So he came up with an idea to help put their relationship back on track, and it was taking her to the place they first met. However, once they get there Layla starts acting different and many unexplainable events occur throughout the rest of the story.

My thoughts: When I first started reading this book, I thought it was your typical trying to get back to normal after a life altering event kind of book. So it was very start at first, but as the book went on there was a big plot twist. This plot twist honestly changed the whole vibe of the book for me entirely because it was absolutely so surprising. Once this new detail was explained and figured out, I just had to keep on reading more to find out what was going to happen next. Once they figured out how to solve the main problem in the book it honestly was a little bit jarring at first. That is one thing I can tell you is there a lot of plot twists and the book can get a little bit confusing. Then once you get closer to the ending there is a graphic part of the book, which wasn’t exactly my favorite part. I don’t like reading or seeing bloody/graphic scenes because they just gross me out. Then when the book got to the resolution, it honestly wasn’t my favorite ending of all time. However, it kind of made sense at the same time to end it the way Colleen did.

Would I recommend this book? Yes, absolutely.
